My work is textile in spirit .Using both traditional and digital techniques I decorate the surface of my handmade tiles with a combination of my own drawings, textile samples, found papers and glazes or coloured slips. I often add wire, fabric or thread for contrast in surface texture.
Last year I joined a small group of ceramicists at Middleton Eco centre. Here I am able to experiment with new glaze techniques and types of clay. I have also acquired a small kiln which allows me to develop digital glaze transfer techniques.
During my ten years in teaching, inspiration was channelled through my students, whilst my mind was running riot with creative ideas. I now have the opportunity to explore some of them. So far I have limited myself to two main colour schemes in a deliberate decision to refine techniques and to focus my messily creative mind. The recurrence of sticks and circles which seem to feature in most of my compositions , is more subconscious choice.
